The Stage of Writing a Composition
Since we are English majors, we have written many a composition in all kinds of exams. Thus, we should have been very familiar with writing a composition. However, when asked to write a composition, a large number of students don’t blankly know what to write and don’t form a clear frame on their mind. It is obvious that some proper and practical measures should be taken to solve this problem in order to make students learn the writing process by heart.
Firstly, analyzing the question is the significant step of writing. When doing this, you should completely clear about what the requirements and key points are and pay special attention to the special requirements. Next, it is very vital to think about the type of writing such as argumentation or narration, determine the tense such as present tense or past tense and make sure the person such as first person or third person.
Secondly, it is indispensable to prepare the draft. The draft should at least consist of three parts: the structure of the writing, key words possibly used in the writing and the sentence pattern. When design the structure, you should
clear about how many paragraphs you will divide the essay into and what information included in the paragraphs is. Next, you’d better write down some key words that may be used in the essay, which efficiently makes for smooth writing. Then, making composition vivid and colorful should be taken into consideration. For instance, you can use inversion instead of narration, double negative sentence instead of positive sentence.
Thirdly, it is indispensable to use transitional marks, which can make the whole passage natural and unified. The thing that should be pointed out is the beautiful beginning and a good ending, which can be beneficial for good score.
Last but not least, examining mistakes is an indispensable part for a perfect composition. You should leave two minutes to check your writing no matter how you are pressed for time. Only in this way can you write a perfect composition.
